MTD deadline checker

Gross self-employment income plus gross property income, set against the three published groups. Wages are not an input.

Not sure which start date applies?

The checker stays in the browser. This form emails the site without those figures.

Results update as you type. Nothing is stored. Wages are not an input.

Example: £45,000 of wages is left out. £6,000 of rent is the property figure. Qualifying income is then £6,000.

2026 to 2027£20,0006 April 2028Not over

This figure is not over any of the three published thresholds. HMRC still reviews the actual return for each tax year.

Software is not yet hands-on tested. Use HMRC’s software list. Deadline reminders are a separate request form. They do not include these figures.

£45,000 of wages and £6,000 of rent

Employment income is not qualifying income. The wages stay out of the box. The property figure is gross rent, before expenses. Qualifying income in this example is £6,000.

Tax year reviewedOverStarts£6,000
2024 to 2025£50,0006 April 2026Not over
2025 to 2026£30,0006 April 2027Not over
2026 to 2027£20,0006 April 2028Not over

One undated total is not the return HMRC reviews. A later tax year can still cross a lower threshold even when an earlier year did not.

How the test works

Qualifying income is gross self-employment income plus gross property income. Expenses do not reduce it. Wages, dividends, a partnership share and pensions are not added. “Over” means greater than the published amount.

Read how qualifying income is calculated. This is general information, not tax advice. Check GOV.UK or ask an accountant.

Frequently asked questions

Is this HMRC’s tool?

No. It is an independent illustration of the published thresholds. HMRC’s own tool asks about each tax year on GOV.UK.

Are the figures stored?

No. They stay in the browser.

Can I get a reminder email?

Yes. The reminder form emails this site after a Cloudflare check. It does not include the income figures, and it is not a stored mailing list.
